In response to the deadly mass shooting in Jacksonville, FL, when a white supremacist stole the lives of three Black individuals, PFT President Jerry Jordan issued the following statement:
PHILADELPHIA--"I am enraged and devastated by the deadly act of white supremacy in Jacksonville, Florida, where once again the catastrophic combination of racism and firearms has left a community shattered.
"To know that Black individuals were targeted, just a short distance away from Edward Waters University, an HBCU, is simply despicable. Three Black victims' lives were stolen from them in this horrendous act, and the lives of their loved ones will simply never be whole again. I offer, of course, my deepest condolences to the loved ones of those who were killed. But my condolences are wholly insufficient.
"The devastation of gun violence and the ongoing scourge of racism in this country should be unthinkable but are in fact far too common. Today, on the anniversary of the March on Washington, a time where the nation recommits itself to the ideals set forth by the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., thousands gathered in the nation's capitol to commit to the work ahead. And now, the nation once again mourns. We have so very far to go to achieve true justice."
