Fund Our Facilities: Call for State of Emergency

On Thursday, February 13, before a meeting with the Richmond School community and on the heels of the ninth and tenth school closures due to asbestos, PFT President Jerry Jordan joined with Fund Our Facilities Coalition partners to once again call for Governor Wolf to declare a state of emergency for the School District of Philadelphia

The Governor has worked hard to restore more than $1 Billion in education cuts enacted by his predecessor. And this year he has heeded our call to prioritize lead and asbestos remediation in his budget with a $1 billion proposal for remediation work. We will continue to advocate strongly for that proposal, and commend the Governor for his initiative and leadership.

But we must do more, and we must do it now. The facilities emergency in Philadelphia’s public schools is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis.
